Boys & Girls Club Stories
Salt Lake City, Utah March 5, 2025 – Selected among outstanding youth from across the state, Taylor G has been named the Utah Youth of the Year by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle. Now in its 77th year, the Youth of the Year program honors our nation’s most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures. As the Utah Youth of the Year, Taylor will serve as an ambassador for all teens in the state, will receive a $5,000 college scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah Alliance, and will advance to the Pacific regional Youth of the Year competition in May.
“We are incredibly proud of Taylor and all the Youth of the Year nominees,” said Jim Clark, president and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Being named Youth of the Year is a lifelong honor and accomplishment. As the Utah Youth of the Year, Taylor will serve as a spokesperson for Boys & Girls Club kids and teens across the state who need more role models that they can admire and emulate.”
Taylor has been an active member of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake for 11 years. She credits Club for uplifting and launching many of her talents, including drawing & painting, violin, sewing & crocheting, public speaking, leadership, and making friends. The skill Taylor is most proud of honing at Club is her ability to use her voice to speak up on behalf of others. “As obscure as it sounds, I advocate for advocacy. I know that the most effective way to change the world is as simple as speaking out…I will proudly stand by the idea that the courage to advocate is the most important trait to develop in any person,” Taylor said.
This summer, Taylor will join other state Youth of the Year to vie for the Pacific regional title. She will be awarded an additional $20,000 college scholarship if named the regional Youth of the Year. The five finalists, along with the National Military Youth of the Year, will advance to the National Youth of the Year event in October 2025 to vie for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional scholarship of $50,000.
