Letter from our CEO
Whatever It Takes. This is our motto. It represents everything we do at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake to set youth and teens on the path to a great future. These words have always been true of our mission and our work but they have taken on new meaning in today’s environment.
Since mid-March, when schools were closed to slow the spread of COVID-19, the normal way we administered our programs was upended. But a new course of action quickly emerged and has evolved in the subsequent weeks. Almost immediately, we transformed snack and meal programs to ensure our Club members and their families were not without basic needs. Shortly thereafter, preschool and emergency care for essential workers resumed at our Clubhouses with stringent safety measures in place to protect the health of our staff and kids.
At the same time, we began the important work of reconnecting with Club members. Relationships are at the heart of Boys & Girls Clubs’ impact and right now, kids are isolated from peers and adult mentors. They are missing out on important outlets for recreation and interaction with friends. Our staff have been creating amazing daily “virtual” programs – bringing the arts, outdoor activities, academic support, and peer group discussions back into the lives of our members.
Our Board of Directors has also been highly engaged in business continuity planning and ensuring we are poised to resume normal Club services as soon as possible. They recently launched the COVID-19 Response Campaign to shore up revenue losses from cancelled special events and loss of program fees with the goal of raising $425,000 by June 30, 2020.
I’m extremely proud of our staff and volunteers for continuing to do Whatever It Takes for our kids. I hope you’ll join us and make a personal gift to support our services by visiting our donation page here.
